Band recording: budget and planning

Everyone playing together sounds different from stacking at home. This guide helps you plan realistically before booking Live band recording on Overtoom.

Band discusses planning among cases in live room.

What you pay for

Live band recording covers the 42 m² live room, mics from our pool of 26, routing to the 32-input desk and an engineer handling gain, phase and monitor mixes. That is included in €125 per hour incl. 21% VAT, engineer included.

A full eight-hour day is €920. It is not an open-ended «try everything» ticket: we agree targets — for example three live basics plus iso vocals on one song. Session flow is described on live band recording.

How much time you actually need

Less experienced groups underestimate setup: kit placement, DI checks and a first monitor mix can eat an hour. Tight arrangements and tuned gear move faster.

Plan conservatively: one song live with two or three usable takes and a short vocal iso can fill half a day when arrangements are lean. Five songs in one day only works with compact writing, few retakes and no long re-amp detours. Send a demo via contact; we reply within 2 working days with a suggested scope.

Scenario A suits a band capturing four live songs then mixing offline. Scenario B is a shorter session for one single plus overdubs. Your project may differ — use this as a framework, not a fixed quote.

Costs outside the hourly rate

Rented strings, extra backline or third-party specialist mics are not in our standard price. On-site parking is limited to 2 spots; budget street parking or public transport in Amsterdam. We do not cater meals; coffee and water are available.

Mix, master, revisions beyond the 2 rounds included in those packages, and archive storage after 24 months follow the service pages. Business clients: 14-day payment terms where applicable — see terms and conditions.

Preparation that saves money

Tune instruments and change worn strings or heads before the session. Bring a set list with tempos and keys; mark stops and breaks. Rehearse to click if you want one in the room — otherwise tempo debates eat time.

Schedule vocals in the iso booth right after a strong band take, not when everyone is exhausted. For handing files to mix later, read file formats for mixing. Vocalists: vocal warm-up reduces lost time to hoarseness.

Cancellation and moves

Free rescheduling may be possible until 7 days before the session under our terms; after that the deposit may be forfeited or the day re-invoiced. That protects both the studio and bands waiting for Oud-West slots.

Tell us early via contact or 020 789 0416 if illness or a tour clash appears. We look for a new date within a reasonable window; peak summer weeks in the Netherlands fill quickly.

Summary

  • Band rate €125 per hour or €920 per day, engineer included.
  • Include setup and monitor time; four songs in one day needs tight prep.
  • Mix, master and extras are separate; the table is a starting point, not a fixed price.
  • Deposit 30%; cancel or move within 7 days where allowed.
  • Demo and questions via contact — we help you scope realistically.

Vocals only after a home recording? vocal recording may fit better than a full band day.
